Guru Purnima 2079: Festive Celebration of Teacher’s Day in Nepal
To embark on the joy and respect for the ones who have taught us everything, This Guru Purnima is a day to cherish the existence of our pathmakers.
“Guru” is the Nepali word resembling teachers whereas “Purnima” denotes a full moon night. Guru Purnima is an auspicious day to worship all the teachers creating an impact on our life. By “all the teachers” it not only means a specific person, in fact, every little creature or place that influences and creates an impact over our lives are all the teachers to be appreciated.
Why Do We Celebrate Guru Purnima?
Since ancient times, Gurus have been acknowledged to be the power. Not just our religion, every historic epic has some Teacher who has helped the historic heroes achieve what they are known to be today. These teachers are celebrated on the 9th of Shrawan.
In Hindu ancient epics, it states Vyasa or Ved Vyasa, to be the leader of the Rishis and Gurus. He is considered the Sage of power with the power of prediction. He was the source of knowledge and had many disciples. The mythological stories point out the Tanahun district of Nepal to be his birthplace. The place today is called Vyasa Village.

Guru Purnima is the day where we celebrate the Elite Guru’s birth with all the teachers that we have in our life. Teacher’s impact our lives whether directly or indirectly. You must have heard the story of Ekalavya, the greatest student who got great with archery, without learning it from his teacher, Dronarchya. He just believed him to be his teacher and made a sculptured image, upon whose presence he practiced and became the greatest. That is the power of the teacher. The story had the point of faith that a student has towards the teacher. Eklavya easily, cut off his right thumb and sacrificed it for his teacher.
The relation between the teacher and student is one that cannot be explained in sweet or short words.
Though Guru Purnima is dedicated to the teachers that have taught us about life, education, and knowledge, we have learned the philosophical aspect of respect to learn the lessons that each step of our life, teaches us. Education is not only practiced in schools and institutions. We are always learning and we always have some teachers guiding us through the path. So, Guru Purnima is the day of celebration for all these teachers who creates an impact for the better.
