Ingredients for Poached Mutton
- Oil: 1 tablespoon
- Mutton: 400 Grams
- Onion: 50 Grams (1 piece cut into 4 pieces)
- Clove: 10 Grams
- Bay Leaf: 2 Piece
- Carrots: 50 Grams (chopped)
- Spring Garlic: 50 Grams (chopped)
Method of Preparation for Poached Mutton
It is not hard to make a poached Mutton. All you need to do is saute the mutton for a bit before putting it in water, adding in the veggies and herbs before cooking it slowly in low heat.
Total Time: 1 hour
Step 1: Saute
– Heat the pan
– Shallow fry the Mutton till light brown in Color
Step 2: The Poaching
– Take the mutton off the pan
– Let it cool down for a while
– Remove any fat stuck on the meat
– Heat some water till it shimmers
– Drop in the meat
– Add in the herbs and Vegetables
– Simmer in low heat for 30 Minutes
Step 3: Serve
– Use tongs to pull out the strands of Meat
– Serve on a hot plate
Side Note* it is better to use a Chicken Stock or a Vegetable Stock as they are healthier but since a lot of Nepalese don’t have access to these, you can use water. Because this dish doesn’t contain any form of spices nor fat, it is a perfect dish for those who are sick. If you want to add spices you can add in some.
Stock is a liquid extracted from slow-cooked bones mixed with bouquet garni (mix of aromatic herbs).
