What to do after winning the EDV lottery?

Okay, admit it, most of you all have thought of, or already applied EDV lottery. And not everyone is lucky enough to win the lottery. But for the ones that have won the lottery might not know the further procedure. Don’t worry, this article will help you guide through the procedures after winning the EDV lottery.

So, first, let me make you clear The Embassy or the Department of the State won’t email or notify the selected ones. The only you can check if you have been selected or not is through the Electronic Diversity Visa (EDV) website. Also, winning the EDV lottery will not guarantee you will receive a visa. To receive a DV to immigrate to the United States, selectees must still meet all eligibility requirements under U.S. law.

Confirm Your qualifications

So to get a DV (Diversity Visa), everyone must have a high school degree or two-year work experience as defined under provisions of U.S. law. High school degree will comply with completion of 12 years of formal education, including elementary and secondary education. And If you are qualifying with work experience, you must have two years of experience in the last five years. The experience should be in an occupation that is designated as Job Zone 4 or 5, classified in a Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) rating of 7.0 or higher by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Submit your Immigrant Visa Application

The main applicant and the family members must complete Form DS-260. You will then need to enter your DV number into the online DS-260 form to access and update the information about yourself and your family members. If you have had a recent addition to your family (spouse and/or a child) you need to add new family members. But if you have not included your already present family members and wish to enter it now, that will be a problem.

On the Sign and Submit page of the DS-260, you should re-enter your DV case number without the zeros. Entering the full case number with zeros will generate a validation error.

After submitting the Form DS-260 online, print the confirmation page. You must bring the confirmation page to your visa interview.

Submit Documents

After you fill your DS-260 form, you will get the guidelines to submit your and your family members documents. Your interview will not be scheduled until you submit the documents. If you cannot submit a particular document, you should email [email protected], explaining why you can’t get the document in .pdf or .jpeg format with your case number in the subject line. You should bring original documents in the interview.

Confirmation of Interview

After filling the DS-260 form and submitting the documents, they will verify your application. Then, you may receive an e-mail from the Kentucky Consular Center to log into the Entrant Status Check on the Electronic Diversity Visa (EDV) website, using your DV entry confirmation number, to view the date, time and location of your interview. Print this information for the interview. All the family members that have applied and the main applicant must be present there at the interview.

After the interview

The embassy will inform you after your Interview.

Visa approval – When approved, you will be informed how and when your passport and visa will be returned to you.

Visa denial – If denied, you will be informed about why you are ineligible to receive a visa.

You can travel within the date in the Visa if it gets approved. Pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee of $220 per person after your Visa gets approved to get your Permanent Resident Card.

You children also need to clear all vaccinations before getting enrolled in a school in the U.S. Also have your X-rays as hand carry and not in luggage.
