Chaudhary Group is the largest Multinational company in Nepal having 136 companies in 15 different business verticals across five continents. Though CG is renowned for the product “Wai Wai“, it also provides financial services, consumer goods, education, hospitality, energy, consumer electronics, real estate, biotech, and alternative medicine which is all managed by Three Chaudhadhary Brothers, the business tycoons of Nepal and the sons of the late Mr. Lunkaran Das Chaudhary.

The trinity of the Chaudhary Group

Binod Chaudhary

The full name of Binod Chaudhary is Binod Kumar Chaudhary. He was born in Kathmandu, the eldest son of Mr. Lunkaran Chaudhary who was a business tycoon by that time. Inspired by his father and his grandfather, he slowly began to expand his own business. After reaching the age of 20, he started a textile industry. Not long after that, an earthquake struck Nepal, but that did not affect his plans at all. In the same year, he became the first one to be known as the one to start the first formally registered clothing company. 

Starting of his business was easier but when he tried to expand his business beyond the borders, it was disappointing. Becasue when he tried to make a deal with Suzuki, they gave him a trial period that whoever will sell the maximum numbers of cars within 6 months, would win the deal. Since, there were three other dealers where Binod could not make the deal. However, he didn’t give up on his first attempt so he kept on continuing his business expansion and soon opened a disco called Copper Floor which was a big success. Now encouraged by this he tried to strike a deal with Japanese Company “Panasonic” and that was a big success.

Arun Chaudhary

As raised by his father to understand the bond of family and strength he values them a lot. While being raised as a family kid, he was also raised to be a business person. As said, the one to correct the mistakes of Mr. Binod Chaudhary is Mr. Arun Chaudhary. The advisor to the first Nepalese to be listed on the list of billionaires is also a leader on his own rights. Although his income is a bit less than his older brother, it is safe to say that he is not less in terms of power and influence than his brother Binod Chaudhary. 

Being the second in charge of this huge organization that the three brothers have built, it is safe to say that he doesn’t have as much responsibility as his older brother and he uses this to it’s very limit by expanding the business that he feels connected to an absurd amount. He once said that if he connects with a business he strives to be the biggest player. That is not an overstatement coming from him who has expanded CG automobiles to what it is today almost single-handedly. He also connects with the Service industry it seems as most of them are handled solely by him and it can be easily said that he doesn’t care about numbers as much as his brothers. He stays and doesn’t quit despite losses and then he makes a profit out of them if you give some time. 

Basanta Chaudhary.

Among three Chaudhary Brothers, Basanta Chaudhary has a unique personality. He is a powerful businessman and the way he does business is way better than any of us can even think of. Unlike his two brothers, along with being a businessman, he is also an author. If you are old enough, you might remember the movie magazine called “Urvashi” which was nothing less than the guilty pleasures of our fathers, was started by Basanta Chaudhary. So it can be seen clearly that besides business he had a huge interest in media. He is also good in public relations and we can also see him attaining many events, promoting talents and art.

Writing books simultaneously while aiding his brothers in business is nothing unusual for him. The well known CG mansion which is healthcare, education, and research is a business giant that is under the sole control and leadership of Mr. Basanta Chaudahry. Let’s not forget that he is still a poet while leading a business giant as well. He has published a book of poetry collections named Mera Kabitaharu.

Fooding – Wai-Wai

As mentioned in the Case study of the Chaudhary Group, this business giant has a lot of investments in a lot of things and none can be more popular than their involvement in the food industry. They have provided us with snacks that we all love and enjoy. It is safe to say that The Instant Noodle Wai-Wai is synonymous with the Chaudhary Group. But did you know that Wai Wai is not a Nepali Brand?

Yes, the noodle we love and enjoy is not a Nepali Brand but a brand from Thailand. If CG had not invested their time and money to bring Wai-Wai to Nepal, we would never have Wai-Wai. Along with Wai-Wai, there are also Pashupati Biscuits which produces the once-famous “Soaltee” biscuit, and fruit juice “Rio ” are now overshadowed by other competitors somehow. 

International relationships

By now, it is clear that Chaudhary Group has been in an import/export business for almost a century now. What this has done to our society is an interest in the international eyes and hence make it easier to collaborate with them for the growth of our society. Think about it, the more they feel comfortable with Nepali Businessmen, the more they will invest their money into the projects in Nepalese Society. Connected with the previous point is the formation of CG restaurant chains. Although it is not spread yet, this chain has started. Knowing the business style of the CG, it is safe to assume that this chain of restaurants will be a great success as well. Currently, this chain has spread throughout the UK. This chain piqued the interest of the UK businessmen who are willing to do business with Nepal. It can be said that in the near future, we can expect international Chains from the United Kingdom opening in Nepal. 

Energy Infrastructure. 

One of CG’s major investment is seen in the energy infrastructure. Since the past decade, Chaudhary Group has invested a lot in making Nepal energy independent. This means that the CG is researching on “How to reduce the cost of electricity and fuel?”. Along with this, they are also searching on how to be independent as much as possible from other nations for power. This is not only a great contribution to a single society but a nation as a whole

Norvic Hospital. 

Now don’t get me wrong. It is not like CG does not have a hand in other hospitals but the reason. Why I am being specific? This is because it is the first hospital in Nepal to have NABL accreditation (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories). This means that high-level lab tests could be done without having to send out a report to other countries. This not only saved a lot of time but also significantly improved the healthcare system of Nepal
