The sudden outbreak of pandemic COVID-19 has impacted the entire economy of the world. To combat COVID-19, Nepal had imposed a lockdown for several months. Now Nepal is gradually easing lockdown restriction, people are planning for a vacation after the situation gets all better. From Bhadra 1, Nepal Government has decided to open all hotels, rental stay, and travel agencies. Although we are moving ahead, the condition will not be completely safe for some time. Keeping this in mind here are the new rules for vacation which should be followed by everybody after a pandemic especially in a hotel stay.

1. The hotel must record the guest’s health condition, their travel history, and ID

After the pandemic, we can’t go casually everywhere. As hotels are the most vulnerable place for the transmission of COVID-19, checking the guest’s ID, recording their travel history and health condition is the must-do rule for rental hotels. Both the guests and hotel staff should be cooperative while providing such information.

2. Proper cleaning and disinfection of entire hotel premises

Frequent cleaning and sanitation should be done on entire hotel premises. Each room has to be disinfected after guest check-out and before each check-in. Cleaning staff should wear gloves and mask while sanitizing the frequently touched surfaces such as door lock, benches, elevator button, washroom fixtures, etc.

All hotels and restaurants have to keep hand sanitizer at the entrance and make sure to use it by all the staff and guests before entering. Also, temperature screening devices should be used to check the thermal condition on daily basis.

As COVID-19 spreads through contact, measures for avoiding close contacts should be followed by hoteliers in this pandemic. At least six feet distance should be maintained between staff or among guests and staff. If distancing can’t be controlled, then by constructing barriers such as plastic tellers panels, distance sitting arrangements have to be followed.

5. The hotel must adopt contactless processes

 Advancement in technology and their adoption can help to minimize direct physical contact between guests and staff. Online payment system for check-in and check-out, QR options should be adopted by the hotel after the pandemic. Any special requirement of guests should be addressed by live chat without coming in contact with the staff.

Entry is allowed inside the hotel; only if all the staffs and guests wear masks. And it has been made mandatory. Each person has to wear a mask all the time in the hotel.

7. Room service and take away should be encouraged

Instead of a dine-in, room service system should be adopted in each hotel to minimize the crowd. Staffs delivering food to the guests have to leave the packet near the door instead of direct hand over of the parcel.

Hotel staff should monitor the proper functioning of ventilation, air conditioning filters, and also the frequent replacement of indoor air after the check-out of guests.

9. Lift limits must be followed

If possible guests should be encouraged to take the stairs rather than taking the lift. And for the special case, one person per lift has to be followed to minimize the risk.

One of the effective preventive measures is having a healthy and immunity-boosting diet. Keeping this in mind, hoteliers are planning to add some immunity booster and nutrient-rich dishes in their menu. This will make the habit of having healthy food on vacation too.

11. Training the staffs on safety measures

Each hotelier has to teach their staff about how to disinfect, solutions that can be used as disinfectants, proper way of wearing hand gloves and surgical masks while cleaning and visiting the guests. Also, staff should be trained on how to do laundry properly as mild hot water should be used while disinfecting the clothes.

This pandemic is surely going to end one day bringing us all back to the normal life but we have to follow rules, maintain hygiene and proper sanitation, and social distancing .we can’t just go wandering wherever we want with complete ignorance to the fact that it can again outbreak in future.
