2. Do not Eat Beef

A cow is the national animal of Nepal. A cow is worshipped as goddess Laxmi in Nepal.

Wearing revealing clothes might be an ordinary thing in your country. But here in Kathmandu, Nepal it is a big deal. Nepalese people do not wear revealing clothes in public places.

So, avoid wearing revealing clothes, especially in public places like temples, stupas, and historical places. Wearing revealing clothes will make people around you uncomfortable and you will grab unwanted attention.

5. Never Wear Shoes Inside the Temple

Shoes are strictly prohibited inside any temples and monasteries in Nepal.

Temple and monasteries are the places where gods and goddesses reside. Nepalese strongly believe in the existence of gods. We worship in temples and stupas. They are sacred places.

So, wearing shoes in temples and stupas is strictly not allowed.

6. Do not rotate Stupas in an Anti-clock direction

The stupa is a religious monument in Buddhism. 

There is a tradition of taking rounds of the stupa which Buddhists refer as Kora. So, always remember to take Kora in a clockwise direction. This is the rule.

The famous stupas of Nepal are Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Lumbini. When you visit Swayambhunath, Boudha or Lumbini, do not forget to take rounds/kora of those stupas. 

Doing Kora in anticlockwise ways is believed to disregard Buddha and bring a bad own to your life.

7. Do not use your left hand while Worshiping

Kathmandu is a city of temples. While visiting Kathmandu, you will see different temples and stupas. You will also get to see Nepalese people worshipping gods and goddesses.

If you also wish to worship god then the first thing is to enter the temple only after taking your shoes off and the other thing is always to use your right hand to do offerings such as incense sticks, flowers, fruits, sweets, milk, water, vermilion powder, garland, money, etc to the god.

The rituals performed by the left hand are considered a bad omen.

8. Do not Misbehave in Public

You should behave yourself when you are in public. Do not perform any act that can disturb local people.

Speak gently and humbly to the people. Treat them with respect and they will do the same. Always remember to behave yourself. Speak politely to everyone.

9. Do not take Photographs in Prohibited places

And if you can’t stop yourself from wanting to take a photo then ask the temple’s supervisor for consent. If the permission is granted then Yes!!! surely you can take pictures.

10. Do not take Weeds and Drugs

Weeds and Drugs are illegal in Nepal. If you are found doing drugs and weeds you will have to face legal charges.
