Well, this strange phrase somehow makes sense. Why do you ask? Well, it is because QR code or Quick Response code is a form of the matrix barcode that was invented by the Japanese Automotive company. The main purpose of the QR code is to act as a barrier between information, allowing only authorized personnel to access the information through the use of different patterns.
The reason why this phrase makes sense is that it essentially means “I am learning all the time and the tombstone will be the barrier between my knowledge and people which can only be accessed through death”
Now it is easily understood what it does. But Where is it used?
It is used virtually everywhere as long as one needs some security or gibe short information – including our WIFI.
How is QR code used in Wifi?
In the past, we used to use passwords to protect our wifi but with the advancement of technologies and smartphones, QR codes have become a rather popular mode of securing your wifi.
It is a bit troublesome to set up a QR code for your wifi but once you set it up, you don’t need to tell your friend the password every time. This being said, while it is a good way to secure your wifi, it is also one of the worst ways if you do not use two-factor authentication as well. It is a code that can be scanned by anyone as long as they have compatible devices.
Process to set up the QR code
- Enter the QR code generators sites
- Enter the name of wifi in the network field or SSID
- Select the encryption method
- If it is a hidden network, click on the hidden box
- Enter the wifi password
- Add a frame and change the color and border
- Download your QR code
The process is as simple as this. Now while is being said, it needs to be noted that regardless of which site you visit, the process will remain the same. Some of the more popular sites are:
With these websites, you can set up QR codes for your WiFi. Just be sure to not keep that code in a public place if you have wifi of lower bandwidth.
How to scan QR code
Do note that for now, we are specifically talking about scanning QR codes using a smartphone and not your Laptop. Now that we have cleared this, do note that to scan a QR code you need a working camera on your smartphone. To Scan the QR code you have to:
- Go to the network settings
- Tap on WiFi
- Scroll to the bottom of your saved wifi
- Tap the QR code on the right
- This will open your camera’s viewfinder
- Position the viewfinder over the QR code available
- The application will automatically scan the QR code
- Once the code is scanned, you will receive a notification of your wifi being connected.
But this being said, if you are using an older version of android, you may not have an inbuilt QR code scanner. In such cases, you need to install external applications in order to gain access.
Popular QR code Scanners are:
- Kaspersky’s QR Code Reader and Scanner
- Neoreader Barcode Scanner
- Barcode Reader
- QR Code Reader by Scan
- QR & Barcode Reader by Gamma Play
- QR Droid
Since we have talked about QR codes all this time, you must be wondering what the benefits are. Let’s talk a bit about the benefits of using the QR code.
What are the benefits of the above paragraph??
With this being said we have come to the end. QR code is a rather simple concept that uses the graphical representation of small squares. These squares are then read by special applications to get the information stored in them. Now, these applications can be anything from the URL of a website to links to passwords.
One thing that you have to note is that while a QR code is a good way to share information, without two-factor authentication it is not as secure as some passwords. This is because one can access the security with passwords as long as they can remember the passwords but one needs to have either a digital or a physical copy of QR code, both of which can easily spread with just a click of a camera or copying of the image file.
