Nepali nai ta ho ni – halka Dhilo ta bhaihalcha ni !
This is a line that we hear all too often in Nepal. For those few who don’t know what this means, it simply means –
“We are just Nepali – it’s normal to be a little late”
But that doesn’t eliminate the issue of people being late. Are you among those people or are you annoyed by these people – who can’t get anywhere on time? Whichever list you might fit into- Do you want to learn how to make a good time schedule?
Well if you are someone who knows or is among those people who never get on time, this is the article that you have been looking for. Here we cover __ tips on how to make a good time schedule.
1) Identify Priorities
The first thing that you need to do if you need to have a good schedule is to learn how to prioritize things. Make a note listing all the things that you need to do, Put the things that need to be done immediately at the first and the things that can be done a bit later at the end of the list. This is one of the first things that you should do to make a good time schedule
On top of this, among the things that need to be done first, keep the things that are easy to do and can be done quickly at the start. This will not only enable you to get things done but do them efficiently.
For example, if you need to complete three homework and meet a friend by 5, then find out the homework that needs to be complete immediately and put them before meeting your friend. Here let’s say among the three homework two of them need to be immediately completed. After that, find out the one that can be done quickly and do it first. Now by doing this even if you are not able to finish the second one before meeting your friend, you would have completed the first one.
Now, this is a good way to make a time schedule and one of the first steps as well.
2) Cluster Similar Tasks
The main theory behind this is that when you do similar tasks, you tend to get quicker over time. So instead of doing different types of tasks at a random time, you can complete similar tasks quicker due to your mind going into auto-pilot mode as you do the similar type of tasks.
This is a great way to save time.
For instance, if you are a content writer and need to complete 6 Contents in a day with 3 of them being contents about mental health and three being the contents about History, it is better to group content about history and mental health into two chunks. Since their content is similar, your brain will find it much easier to process the 2nd and third content of the same chunk after the first one is done. This will increase your efficiency thereby decreasing your working time.
If you want to have a good time schedule, grouping similar tasks into chunks is a great way to do so.
3) Create Realistic Deadlines
Let’s be honest – no one likes deadlines. Looking at a deadline is like looking at a time bomb. You get stressed the less time you have. But at the same time, people underestimate the power of deadlines. A good deadline puts positive pressure on us.
To be honest with is – if you had a long time to do a simple task, the chances are that you will never do that task. So yes, we hate deadlines, especially when we are the ones who have to set a deadline for a task. In such cases, it is better to have realistic deadlines – it is way better than having none at all and having a tight one, especially when it comes to making a good time schedule.
4) Give full attention to what you are doing
The only thing that is worse than having a messed-up time schedule is having one but messing it up. By following the previous three tips, you should already have a working time schedule. It won’t be perfect but it will be a functional one.
But if you cannot give your full attention to what you are doing at the moment, you will mess up this functional time schedule. Do Not get distracted and focus on what you are doing at the moment if you want to finish your work on time and get things done. Believe us when we say this – once you give full attention to what you are doing, you will have plenty of free time later to do random things.
5) Train Yourself to Avoid Distractions
The best way to give your full attention to your task is to avoid distractions. While this thing is indeed easier said than done – believe us it is worth it. How do you stay focused? You need to train yourself to avoid distractions.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to just plug a silencing earphone in your ear and play nothing. This is a good way to let others know that you do not want to get disturbed and cancel out the noise as well. While doing this be sure to keep your cell phone on vibrate and log out of social media.
Additionally, you can play non-distracting music in the background if you don’t like the silence but if you are among those who get distracted easily, it is better not to do so if you want to ve efficient and maintain a good time schedule.
6) Add a Cushion between each Task
Now if your days are filled with tasks, it can get a bit mundane to do all the tasks at one go. This can not only make your brain feel monotonous but also decrease your processing speed as well, To overcome this mundane feeling, it is a good idea to have small breaks in between each task.
Remember that you are just a human and you need breaks. And a mind that gets short breaks is much better than a mind that is tired. Just be sure to keep these breaks short and not get distracted. These breaks are meant to refresh your mind to become efficient so that you can keep your time schedule.
7) Stay Flexible
Last but not least – stay flexible. Life is unpredictable so you never know when something may happen. This may be a good or a bad thing as well. Maybe you will get proposed by your workmate, or hear the news of your failure of a brother acing the exams.
On the darker side, you may meet with an accident or your best friend may have a breakup. During these times your mind will not be in the best of states to remain true to your time schedule. So be ready to shift some of your works to a later day at any moment.
This unpredictability of life is also the main reason why we need to prioritize while making a time schedule – we will finish some before an emergency comes up.
So,
The gist of making a good time schedule is to prioritize things and don’t slack off. Sure it will be a bit hard to maintain a good time schedule at first but as you get used to it, it will become easier to the extent where you will be doing these things automatically each morning.
