How To Become An Engineer In 2021

You could ask,” How to Become An Engineer?”, and there’s just one answer that questions the question itself.

If you were to throw a stone down from the recently built Dharahara, it will probably hit an Engineer. Three things are clear from this:

  1. Nepal has a large number of engineers
  2. Most of the Engineers are concentrated in Kathmandu
  3. I have a sense of humour

Nevertheless, I find many newly graduated students confused about how one actually becomes an engineer. Right off the bat, let me clarify one thing: becoming an engineer and getting into an engineering college are two entirely different things. In this article, we will discuss how to get into an Engineering institute in Nepal.

The former topic “How to become an Engineer in Nepal” will also be written about as soon as I get my hands on my certificate which was due for 2020. Make of that information what you will.

However, before you build your career path towards becoming an engineer, figure out why you want to do it in the first place. I can’t stress this enough: Write down your reasons for joining Engineering so you will always remember them.

The path to becoming an engineer, like any other career, is not a linear one; it has its ups and downs. In engineering, you will face failures that are too difficult to even imagine (A joke, but seriously, there will be failures), but if you value engineering for the right reasons, you will overcome those failures.

Here are a few reasons that are not good enough to be an Engineer:

  • You want to make your parents proud
  • You think being an Engineer is a matter of pride
(Every job has some sense of pride attached to it when done correctly)
  • Because you had taken Physics in your +2,
(Just know this is not the only option you have)

The right reason to become an Engineer is that you want to become an Engineer no strings attached.

With that being said let’s get you into an Engineering college along with the guide for how to become an engineer.

When should you start preparing for Engineering?

I have had friends prepare for Engineering since they started their +2 or at least since 12 class. I started after I finished my 12th exam.

Most of them got better placement than I did. So word of advice, start as early as you can. But the time you take doesn’t matter if you don’t study and prepare effectively.

How can I prepare for Engineering?

One of the most popular ways to prepare for Engineering is to go to a preparation class. Most of the popular ones are at Thapathali. You can visit them and start preparing as soon as you can.

But, that is not the only option you have, consult with your college if they are running any Engineering Preparation class. My college had one so I enrolled in it free of cost.

If this is not an option for you, ask someone who is currently studying Engineering to help with the preparation. They might be able to lend you some notes or preparation guide books.

Another option you can turn to is the internet, buying Engineering books, and preparing yourself.

The first option is said to be more effective than the other, but before you spent a penny of your own it might be a good idea to test the water.

Where can I apply for Engineering?

Most Universities in the country have an Engineering Program. Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu University, and Pokhara University being favored more. Each of these universities has its own scheduled entrance exams. Most of the Entrance takes place in the month of August or September.

It might be a good idea to go into the Universities official website to get specific dates.

Preparing For Engineering Courses

Once the results from the universities are out, you can fill out forms for affiliated colleges and wait for them to publish their list of intake.

Most affiliated colleges have their own websites and take online form submissions or you can visit the colleges themselves.

One thing to keep in mind in this process is to not panic. If you have passed the Entrance you will surely get into one of the colleges.

If you fail to get into the college or university of your choice their is always time to try again.
