Dashain is supposed to be the festival of gathering and fun – But this random chaos ruined it allAn unsatisfied Nepali
Yes, it has ruined Dashain for us all. We already celebrated one Dashain in pandemic and it doesn’t seem like we will get rid of this anytime soon.
It is not fun, but we don’t have another option either. It is either being safe in Dashain or risk getting infected. When the only we have are either a bit boring or bad, it is not hard to pick the boring option – celebrate Dashain safely.
But how do we even do this? Well, there are a few things you can do and a few things you shouldn’t do to celebrate Dashain during the Pandemic In Nepal safely.
And for those who think the pandemic is over – No, it is not!
What you should do to Celebrate Dashain During The Pandemic in Nepal
Despite the existence of the Pandemic or perhaps due to its existence, there are few things that you should do during this Dashain. And by this, we don’t mean the rituals. We mean the things you should do to make your Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal safe and enjoyable.
What? Just because there is chaos doesn’t mean that we can’t find our own happiness!
1) Make a Budget Plan
Making a budget plan is something you should do regardless of the situation. But the precedence of budgeting has increased even more so in the past year. A lot of people have lost their jobs or have a reduced salary.
In this situation, if we spend like we usually do, then naturally we will regret it later on – especially if this continues for a long time. There is a financial crisis going on in Nepal and if you don’t plan carefully, you might just go broke.
2) Stock up
No, we don’t clear out all the stocks. What we mean by stock up is, buy the things needed for Dashain before the festival begins. Since a lot of people are busy enjoying quality time with their family, a lot of the shops will be closed. Along with this, the government might issue an order of a semi lockdown to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.
This means that you will have a very limited time to buy things that you need in Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal this year. List out the things that you might need like abir, flower garlands, and buy them beforehand – Just don’t over-buy.
3) Enjoy with your family
Just because you should avoid events, doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy yourself with your family. Sure some of you may not be close with your family members but a game of ludo or call break won’t hurt you will it?
Dashain is a festival of receiving blessings and spending time with family and this time period is nothing short of a blessing to have some family time. For those who are not close with their families, who knows, this Dashain During the Pandemic might just be the thing you need to get close with them.
4) Ensure your family safety
Talking about family – besides enjoying, you should also ensure their safety while celebrating Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal this year. And the best way to do this is by following the rules.
They are not hard to follow, to be honest. All you need to do is avoid the crowd, use masks when you go outside and use hand sanitizers every now and then. Just be sure to look out for symptoms and get checked if you feel like you might have been infected.
5) Plant some Jamara
You need to plant Jamara for Dashain Regardless of the pandemic. Why not plant a bit more and gain some health benefits out of it? Yes, Jamara has health benefits and it is not only about the rituals.
It is easy to grow and has a ton of benefits. Who knows you might even get interested in home gardening once you start doing this. You can follow our article here to learn more about the health benefits and the process of growing a Jamara.
The Don’ts of Celebrating Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal
The first thing that we should not do in Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal is going to crowded places. While you may want to attend events, try to avoid them as much as you can – it is for your own safety. Besides this, there are a few more “Don’t” dos during this Dashain.
While it may feel restrictive to be bounded by these don’ts, believe us they are for your own good.
1) Follow your temptations
As we mentioned before, you need to plan your budget. This means knowing where and how to spend along with how not to spend as well. While there will be a lot of offers during Dashain tempting you to buy random things – you don’t need a majority of them.
Resist temptations and Don’t overspend. You will need that money later on.
Yes, Gambling is somewhat accepted during this festival. But it is better to not Gamble in Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal this year. While you might gain some- you will definitely lose a lot more than you gain.
Furthermore, gambling in any form can lead you to become addicted to it. Remember – there is a very small chance of winning in any form of gambling. Furthermore, there is a money crisis going around anyways.
Food is a big part of the Dashain Festival. But while it is good to enjoy food, be careful not to overindulge yourself. We don’t need to tell you what will happen if you overeat – stomach issue.
This not only ruins all the fun in Dashain, but it also weakens your immune system to some extent as well. This is especially risky during this pandemic. The weaker your immune system – the more risk you have against viruses.
Needless to say, this “Don’t” of Dashain is only meant for Celebrating Dashain During the Pandemic in Nepal. Since there is a risk of Covid, it is better off not traveling this season.
Naturally, you can resume your travels once this chaos is over. But it is better to hold your Dashain travel plans and avoid the risk. Hopefully, this chaos from the virus ends soon so that we – travel freaks, can get our freedom again. For now, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
5) Meet too many relatives
Does this seem counterintuitive to the theme of the family gathering in Dashain? Yes, it does but then again, we are under some special circumstances as well. But don’t get us wrong, we don’t mean to say “avoid every relative”. You should maintain a good relationship with them.
We just mean to say, if you can avoid meeting them, without harming the relationship, then do it. But even if you need to meet some relatives, be sure to follow some basic Covid Prevention measures while celebrating Dashain during the pandemic in Nepal this season.
So the gist is,
The Dashain has been somewhat ruined due to the pandemic. However despite that you can still enjoy and celebrate it safely with your close ones – you should enjoy and celebrate it with your close ones.
Just be careful of your budget, materials, travels, and the number of people you come in contact with while celebrating Dashain during the Pandemic in Nepal. The chaos is not over yet but hopefully, we will be able to see the Dashain that we know and love soon.
