Dark (Netflix): Not Only A Modern Sci-fi Show But A Strong Resemblance To The History Of Greek Mythology

Well well well…Nothing is random in Dark. Every piece of information is perfectly placed in every minute of this series. If you re-watch it and notice properly, the myth of Ariadne is mentioned or hinted in the series several times. Martha is cast as Ariadne for her school play. Remember the word “Ariadne” because the myth has been beautifully and thoroughly linked and the makers have perfectly connected it with the cast. In Greek mythology, Ariadne is the goddess of the labyrinth. She is associated with mazes(the dark cave/tunnel of Winden), fertility, and snakes( the ouroboros ring that the red string is tied to in the tunnel with the help of which Jonas finds the passage to another timeline). In the first season, Martha plays as Ariadne in the play and at the same time, Jonas is following the red string. Due to one thing or another they are separated, yet come back to another, as if they are pulled by some invisible strings.
The story of Ariadne comes from Greek mythology King Minos of Crete hired a craftsman called Daedalus to build a labyrinth for a beast called Minotaur (here minotaur means the time). The king put his daughter Ariadne (Martha) in charge of the island where the labyrinth (time travel) was created. The minotaur lived in the center of the maze and demanded the sacrifice of seven young men and maidens( the children, Mads, Erik, and others). eventually, Theseus (Jonas), the son of King Aegeus decided to slay the minotaur and the ritual of sacrifice. When Theseus arrived on the island, Ariadne fell in love with him at first sight and decided to help him slay the beast. Ariadne (Martha) gives Theseus (Jonas) a ball of yarn to find his way back out of the labyrinth. (So at the end of S2 Martha from another world/dimension/ saves Jonas with her time machine shaped like a ball of yarn. In the end, Theseus emerged victoriously and minotaur was killed. Also, Theseus’s father Aegeus committed suicide according to the myth and according to reality, Jonas(Theseus) father Michael/Mikkel (Aegeus) commits suicide at the very beginning of S1 E1.
While everybody is busy talking about dark being the modern era content…the next level sci-fi shit…here I am telling you dark is very very very perfect. By taking the modern time paradoxes concepts it equally depicts the mythological link and beautifully represents it. While the things people need to know before or even after watching the series to make it clear the doubts once and for all are very few like knowledge about three different paradox of time( bootstrap, predestination and grandfather’s paradox), knowledge on multiverse theory (possibility of more than one world/dimension/universe), very basic knowledge on quantum entanglement and that’s it you are ready to go.
The other thing is the hype, people are just going crazy for Dark and treating it as a God amongst its genre. People need to know great minds like Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, Schrodinger already left us with these theories and Dark just showed it and I have to admit they made it beautifully.
