Casting:

Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect choice for the lead character “Sherlock Holmes” as he fits the traditional reading of the character and he is a damn good actor. Andrew Scott’s portrayal of Moriarty was extraordinary. Martin Freeman’s performance is natural too. The supporting cast was also excellent. Molly’s nervousness, Lastrade’s frustrations, Irene’s arrogance, Mrs. Hudson’s hip, Mycroft’s cool. They all seemed to fit in like pieces of a rather amazing jigsaw which you had no idea would produce such a brilliant image.

Cinematography and Editing:

Why you should binge Sherlock?

Sherlock uses framing, camera movement, and clever editing techniques to let audiences on the complex mystery-solving process of the titular character. There are even entire sequences that take place inside Sherlock’s Mind Palace. In these scenes, lighting is used dramatically to show Sherlock’s state of mind. One particular scene, when Sherlock was injured and unconscious, the lighting is bright and blindingly white as his body goes into shock. In the same sequence, clever camera angles were used, the camera pointed downward at the top of a long spiraling staircase as Sherlock struggles to climb up them and back to consciousness. Hence, the cinematography and editing also make Sherlock a masterpiece to watch.
